Cairn Terriers have a sturdy build and a shaggy, weather-resistant coat. They have a broad head with small, pointed ears, and dark, alert eyes. These dogs have a compact body with a deep chest and a strong, straight back. They weigh between 13-18 pounds and stand around 9-10 inches tall at the shoulder.

Like all breeds, Cairn Terriers are prone to certain health issues, including hip dysplasia, cataracts, and allergies. It is important to keep up with regular vet visits, exercise, and a healthy diet to keep your Cairn Terrier in top condition. Proper grooming is also important to maintain their shaggy coat and prevent skin irritations.

Cairn Terriers originated in Scotland and were bred to hunt small game, such as foxes and rodents. They were used to hunt in the rugged terrain of the Scottish Highlands and were known for their ability to squeeze into tight spaces to catch their prey. The breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1913.
